Friends of Maryhill Road Graveyard project update

The Friends of Maryhill Road Graveyard held their inaugural "open day" on 19 April 2025. The Friends group was constituted in 2023 to take forward a project to completely transform the derelict and overgrown graveyard located at 1956 Maryhill Road, in the grounds of the now demolished Maryhill Old Parish Church. Glasgow City Council supported the clearing of vegetation and installation of paths, benches and fences. 

The Incorporation was delighted to support the Friends with a small grant to purchase planters and flowers, to help make the graveyard a more welcoming place for visitors. The graveyard will be open three days a week during the summer months, providing a space for members of the public to escape from the hustle and bustle of one of Glasgow's busier roads.

The Friends will continue to tend the gardens, cutting grass, litter picking and making sure plants and flowers are cared for. The Incorporation wishes the Friends every success in their endeavours.
