St Ninian`s Church project update

12 April 2025

The Incorporation recently provided St Ninian's Church, based in the south side of Glasgow, with a grant of over £500 to allow them to revitalise a disused courtyard area. The project envisaged providing an area which would have accessible paving and a variety of raised beds and planters. The Church were able to source some of the basic construction materials either for free or at a reduced price, meaning they were able to maximise their use of the grant. Church members donated money towards the colourful plants and flowers.

Church members and their families were also involved in laying the flagstones, creating the planters, laying the gravel and filling the planters with soil. The planters were all planted the day before Palm Sunday, which was nicely timed for the Church's Palm procession with the choir which, for the first time, passed through the courtyard garden.

The Church reported that members of the congregation are very appreciative of how attractive the space is. They have also had some very positive comments from those people who work in the office spaces in the Church building, who pass through the garden on their way into work and who now take the opportunity to have coffee breaks sitting outside.

As part of the Church's Summer Fayre on 28th June, they are planning to open the garden to those passing by and use the space to serve refreshments.

The Church commented "The area has been greatly enhanced and now brings delight to those who use it. We are now making plans to transform the rest of that area!"

The Incorporation wishes St Ninian's every success with that further transformation.
